The Proposal

After three months of daydreaming in law school classes and slowly putting together my wedding binder of all my treasured finds, I decided to create a blog to let friends and family know what we're up to in the wedding planning process. People keep asking me how wedding planning is going, and my typical response is "meh not really going" when in fact we have so many decisions already made, we simply need to secure the "big decisions."  This blog will help document the next year of wedding planning, including how I manage to plan a wedding, study for the bar, and begin my career as a baby lawyer! I also hope to include tips for future brides on setting a budget, guest list, and all in all, remembering that the marriage is what's important!!

For those of you who don't know, Ramsey and I met 6 years ago at Southwestern thanks to mutual friends.  While we took interest in each other, it took another 2 years to bring us both together in Houston.  At that time, I was working for Burberry in Cypress and Ramsey was in grad school at Rice. Thanks again to mutual friends, we found ourselves together at a New Years Eve party when it all clicked together.  We've been together ever since!

As we grew as a couple, we realized how amazing it really was that we found each other. We matched perfectly and were the true counter-balance to each other's personalities. After three years, Ramsey decided it was time to put a ring on it :)

I found out later that Ramsey bought my ring the day of my last final in December.  What was creepy to Ramsey about that day was when I called him after my final he was at the ring store and told me he was out shopping. I asked him "at Robbin's Brothers??" which in fact was where he was!  He later checked his phone for GPS tracking...I also spent a car ride that night talking about our "future wedding" ending, each thought with "but I know we aren't getting married any time soon!"

He ended up proposing to me on Christmas Eve.  We had spent the day with Ramsey's family for his mom's side of the family's Christmas, and we went to my sister's house after where our parents met for the first time! We did not get home until late and I still needed to finish a last present for Ramsey! I was waiting for a key part of the present to get delivered and it was delivered that day! I made him a little book out of vintage cards titled "52 Reasons I love You":

I finished it at midnight when Ramsey was almost asleep and we decided to open presents at that point.  I had him open my newly created present first and he kept acting odd.  He really enjoyed looking at all the funny/silly things I wrote about him.  It was amazing how easy it was to find so many things I love about him!  We opened other presents although he made me save a present in a bag for last.  When I started opening the present, I saw a little wrapped box at the bottom and I just knew.  I slowly unwrapped the present and it was a little red box.  I opened the box and it was the most perfect ring I could have dreamed of.  My heart just about burst out of my chest!  Before I knew it, he asked me if I would marry him, I said yes, and the ring was on my finger.  It was so unbelievable that I was speechless for a good ten minutes that I spent just hugging him.

We are a pretty private couple and I don't like extravagant things or crowds really, so the way he proposed was perfect.  We were in our own home and were able to keep our great news to ourselves for a night while we talked about our future together, how he picked the ring, and how much we loved each other.  It was a moment I dreamed of the next day when I got to call my parents in the morning and tell them the great news!  We also got to celebrate with both our families the next day so Christmas was extra special this year.

And that was the beginning of our new life together :)
